Broome Cruise Port

Port of Broome: An Overview

Broome is a coastal town that's considered the southern gateway to Western Australia's Kimberley region, located about 2,200 kilometres north of Perth. It rose to fame during Australia's pearl-diving boom in the late 1800s, and pearls continue to be a main draw for cruise passengers today.

What makes Broome so unique is that it gives visitors a taste of the Outback (with its red dirt and hot climate), combined with the relaxed atmosphere of a seaside town. Make sure you call into some of the pearl shops and visit Cable Beach, where you can go for a ride atop a camel along the 22-kilometre stretch of sand. If you feel the need to get back on the water, sign up for a fishing charter, or go swimming or snorkelling in Roebuck Bay. Broome is also the departure point for cruises farther into the Kimberley, where passengers can visit waterfalls and gorges. It's included on northern Australia and Asia itineraries.
