CocoCay Cruise Port
Port of CocoCay: An Overview
CocoCay, formerly Little Stirrup Cay, is an island in the Bahamas' Berry Island chain. Located between Freeport and Nassau, it provides 140 acres of private beaches, shopping and activities exclusively for passengers of Royal Caribbean, which has leased the island since 1990. Celebrity Cruises, which is owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., also makes calls there.
When it comes to activities, there's plenty to do. Explore the coral reef or coconut palm groves, take a nap in a shaded hammock, relax and enjoy drinks at one of three on-site beaches, or take to the water on a paddleboat, banana raft or floating mat. Just keep in mind that almost all in-port activities carry an additional cost, and they vary by season. Visitors can rent kayaks ($25), paddleboats ($17), paddleboards ($35) and mats ($18) by the hour. Shore excursions are also available and include everything from WaveRunner trips and kayaking to parasailing, snorkeling, scuba-diving and glass-bottom boat rides. Additionally, there's Caylana's Aqua Park, a water-based playground that features a floating sandcastle, a water totter and a log roll. Admission runs $22 per person (child or adult) for an hour of enjoyment, with a minimum age requirement of 4 years and a minimum height requirement of 48 inches. Separate from the Aqua Park is a 40-story inflatable waterslide -- the world's largest. A one-time ride costs $5 per person. All-day access to the slide will cost you about $26 per person, but a combined pass to both the slide and Aqua Park costs $40 (a savings of $8 per person).
The island offers several varieties of cabanas, ranging in price from $200 to $550 for the day, depending on size, location and amenities. Passengers staying in suites enjoy priority booking. Possible amenities in each deluxe cabana include wicker sofas, loungers and side tables; vinyl loungers on the sand; an exclusive beach barbecue lunch buffet; a fruit plate; bottled water; floating beach mats; snorkel equipment rentals; towel exchange upon request; and personalized bartending service.
Additionally, there are 14 cabanettes and five tiki (palapa) umbrellas available for rent on CocoCay's Barefoot Beach. Each cabanette or tiki umbrella is $50 for the day and can accommodate up to two people. Cabanettes are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Amenities with each include two vinyl loungers with one side table, two bottles of water, a fruit plate, two floating beach mats, towel service upon request and personalized bartending service.
Each of the island's three beaches -- Barefoot Beach, Coconut Willie's Beach and Snorkel Beach -- has its own bar, offering mixed and frozen drinks.
Watch Out For
You'll incur additional fees for alcoholic beverages, souvenirs and shore excursions. The use of beach chairs is free, but an umbrella rental will cost you $12 for the day. Visitors can use their onboard accounts for such purchases while ashore.
What Sets It Apart
In addition to the typical beaches and souvenirs, CocoCay also offers a nature trail and a sunken replica of Blackbeard's ship, Queen Anne's Revenge.
