Glad I went, but not the ship for kids under 16 yrs old

Sail Date: June 2017
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston
We embarked during a flood in Galveston (no one's fault and that doesn't impact my review) and in fact, made it more epic. I was a single parent travelling with an 11 year old.

Pros: Amazingly quick embarkation and debarkation process. We were on and off the ship both times sooner than expected. This was an upgrade from the cruises we've taken with Carnival except when we had suites.

Excellent main dining during standard dining times. Our waiter and assistant made the trip a much better trip for us. Had we rated it just on them, it would have been 5 stars.

Beautiful and interesting ship. There are things to do all the time both inside and out and the interior promenade meant that the inclement weather days, you could still stroll around and not get cabin fever; however, the layout of a Carnival ship like the Breeze has more family-venues so often times things were just not appropriate for the under 16 yrs old crowd except the outside More activities.

Main pool are and hot tubs are fun; however, nothing beats the pools on the Breeze on Deck 5 over the ocean for quick soaks.

Superior Balcony was well worth it. Beautiful room, lots of space and we ate breakfast on the balcony many time and it felt spacious. Really a great room that was kept clean.

Red Stripe Beach & the Behind the Scenes Ship Tours were both incredible excursions. All the other ones we wanted to do were sold out so we did our own thing in the other ports. I highly recommend Red Stripe Beach and renting a cabana - we never wanted for drinks, food, anything and the swimming and beach day was incredible. The highlight of the trip.

Shows - Incredible. A real 'show' experience and the Saturday Night Fever show was absolutely stunning with incredible talent. Truly a must see and even the 11 year old was clapping and whistling at the end.

Lifeguards. There are always at least two (and sometimes many more) lifeguards on duty on the pool deck. This is a huge upgrade from Carnival. Parents never of course should leave kids but on Carnival it does get tedious to stop everything, get the kids, have them march with you to the restroom and then back again. This was nice to have lifeguards there .

Cons: The slowest internet (and they promote the fastest) which really impacted my business. There was one point I got close to tears when an hour long task stretched into a whopping 5 hour task. I ended up getting up at 6am and doing work until it got too slow but that really impacted the 'relaxacation' I was trying to have by a lot. It was much slower than the internet on any of the Carnival ships I've been on and I was kicking myself for not looking into another mobile internet option.

Service with a smile, the excited 'vacation' feeling was not there. Staff were passionate, serious but also seemed stressed out more often than not to the point of being annoyed. The rare people who seemed happy really stood out though and there were a hand full that made the vacation pleasant but there was a feeling that service really was tied to suite-class and above.

Johnny Rockets. I would give this a zero. We waited with no one else for approx. 25 minutes to even get seated (and there were many available seats). We were first taken to a filthy table inside and then opted for a clean one outside (even though inside had cleaner options). We then sat there with the menus for another 25 minutes while people left, tables were cleaned and 1/2 the people were there since we sat down and not a single waitstaff acknowledged us at all despite walking past us and staring at us as we smiled at them hoping for a "it will just be a moment" or "it's shift change" (which I have no idea if it was - but we got there at 3:30pm and at 4:15 or so we left and put the menus at the stand never to have been noticed at all. It's not like we sat ourselves; we waited 25 minutes and were sat by a waitstaff. This really annoyed me a lot.

Families with Small Children: They have numerous ways for you to drop the young ones off but the adult-only pool section is so closed off to the kids that yo

Dining in general: We did try all of the specialty dining venues except the Captain's table. The only one I would recommend is Chop's Grille. The others were similar to what you can get for free on other places - and the dining room is so exquisite (and our waiters were so incredible) that we ended up doing two specialty lunches and only going to Chop's on the 1st formal night and I wish we would have stayed in the dining room. It was that good.

Room service. Our room was clean and tidy. We were acknowledged and met our room steward the 3rd night on board. Before that we were never spoken to. This will be a big difference for those used to Carnival's first-name greeting and attention. However, our steward always had our room clean and on the 3rd - 6th nights he even made us towel animals.

Conclusion: I would not do this cruise again with kids under the age of 16 but I will most like book again with a friend of mine. I have a feeling that an adult cruise on this ship will be a 5 star experience. It's very much more geared towards adults I felt - or at the very least my kid who prefers my company to adventure ocean. We booked this to be together and i felt while they provided activities the most fun activities or spaces on the ship were designed for a 16+ crowd. I also have a feeling the service was so spotty due to the rough start to the cruise - I don't know why but that feeling that the staff was unusually behind the 1st day and they never caught up. I guess if it's the same spotty service next time I'll know for sure but it was good enough I'm going to go again most likely. Less

Cabin review: D11236 Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Absolutely great value and space in this balcony room. We loved it and think anyone in this room will have a great time unless you are heavy into the sports part - then you will really want to be midship or aft as it's a big walk to get back to the slides, FloRider, etc.

Port and Shore Excursions

We did a private tour of San Gervasio, El Mirador, the Blowholes, town to shop, then skipped Punta Sur (the surf was too rough) and ended up at Sky Reef and it was amazing. Absolutely had a blast at Sky Reef and the fish and water clarity was gorgeous.

Beach Break

Red Stripe Beach was the highlight of our cruise. We had a cabana, two beach chairs and the drinks were plentiful, food was good (for beach food) and we swam until we couldn't stand it. Water was so clear as crystal - like the cleanest bath water. Amazing. Held three types of sea urchins then went shopping and had some amazing curried conch right there at the Port. We had a blast in Jamaica!

Galveston is the most incredible city ever (lol I live here so am totally biased).

We did a private tour of the west end. Governor's Mansion, the homes of Bill Gates, Oprah, Queen's residence then on to Hell which was absolutely more impressive in person than what you'd expect. A highlight. Then we went to Royal Palms and spent a fortune renting chairs and an umbrella - and it was not worth it. Waves were rough, did some swimming but no fish to really see - swam out a bit and did see some but just not worth it. Wish we would have gotten dropped off at Grape or one of the public 7 mile beaches.
