My short cruise

Sail Date: June 2017
Destination: Europe - British Isles & Western
Embarkation: Southampton

I was looking for a short cruise on a ship I have not done before. I found a good deal on NCL JADE to HAMBURG. Used an American site which had a guarantee Balcony for £200.

as I was working nights the day before I had no sleep, So got the train from ACTON via CLAPHAM to SOTON. MY ship was in berth 46 did not want to pay for a taxi I got the local bus and was only a short walk. I only had hand baggage so no need to put my luggage to be delivered. I filled out the heath form and joined the short queue after my previous problems being charged twice I even I asked if this would happen she said no way. So gave my ticket and passport and debit card. I then had picture taken before boarding. I was asked my cabin lady made mistake of thinking I was at the aft end. Then got the lift to deck nine and found my cabin at the front end 9018.

I had a balcony cabin at the front, quite a few drawers, bathroom with More different soaps and a shower. The plug in the sink was a bit confusing I did work out how to lock it later. A nice sofa which could be made up to a bed so no real arms which was a shame. I had champagne which was a nice surprise. The balcony was good 2 seats and a table and a good view out, i unpacked my case.

This was at 5pm No jackets were required which is good. My station was the STARDUST THEATRE. I gave my cabin number to lady and looked for a seat sadly I had to sit in a different area and no seats. It was very quick and in 15 mins it was done, very impressed.

As I had already had LUNCH I went to the GARDEN CAFE to get a snack. It was freestyle dining not my favourite as rather have a fixed dining. I was hoping my friend would see me off so I had DINNER early. I went to GRAND PACIFIC at the AFT end of DECK 6. I then had a table to myself not happy with that but accepted it as not many people were there. The food was quite good but nothing special in my opinion. I usually try the speciality restaurants but as it was a bit late I did not use them.

As my friend could not make it I watched the departure from my balcony. We left at 8pm NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS and AURORA left before us.

As I had not had any sleep I did not go to the WELCOME ABOARD SHOW. Some said I had not missed much I saw a bit on the tv.As you cannot smoke on the balcony anymore I went to the CIGAR LOUNGE a bit disappointing as no staff came in to see if you wanted anything. So just smoked my pipe and left.

Next morning woke a bit late so went to the GARDEN CAFE sometimes the buffet it very crowded but there was plenty of space. Had a few problems fining everything. I had ORANCE JUICE,SWISS MUESLI,Scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, tomato, hash browns. No mushrooms at all! Then roll and butter and a coffee.

I had arranged this as nobody else was willing to do it. I said 15 but only half that number turned up. Quite a few of the crew came and introduced themselves. But the others were not very friendly no picture was taken I took my own. They then talked among themselves and ignored me so I walked out!

Quite a good selection no t shirts or hats with the ship on but bought a model of the ship and a 3d JIGSAW.

Only an embarkation picture was taken nothing in the restaurants. The pictures are supposed to be in the file but they had not even printed these out! I had to go back at 6pm to get them. I liked the album with a ships horn and lights and also another as I wanted to put them up at home.

I was so tired I woke up late and missed us arriving at HAMBURG. After BREAKFAST I looked at my bill all good. As I had the walk off I walked off the ship. It was berthed at ALTONA. thought it was a long way away. Only after i realised how close the dock was.

I stayed overnight in a HOTEL so left my luggage there, I went to the HARBOUR and did the MARITIME MUSEUM it was stopped rain so had LUNCH. Then to the HOTEL. I then find my debit card would not work after many attempts I was allowed to go to my room. The lift was out so had to drag my case up 3 flights. I then realised I had no money in my bank as ncl had put a hold on my card and basically charged me £240 for £122. Thank goodness my bank took the other charge off or I would be walking the streets all night.

Next Morning I got up at 4.30am to get the -0640 flight to LONDON. I was a bit surprised I could not take my small case onboard the flight. They picked certain cases and put labels on them these had to go into the hold despite there being plenty of overhead room. At STANSTED I had no choice but use the E PASSPORT GATES but these worked ok.

Had a good cruise not liking freestyle dining much and spoiled by the pre authorisation hold on my card. Less
