Fun trip!

Sail Date: May 2017
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan
We chose this cruise for the itinerary. There were 5 ports after leaving San Juan....only one true sea day. We were busy everyday and exhausted in the evening, but did go to a couple of the comedy shows, that we did enjoy. Our embarkation couldn't have been any smoother. It was probably the easiest that we have ever gotten on board. I think the food, service, cleanliness, etc. was all about average to what we have had on our other Carnival cruises. I was a little afraid of what we were going to find with the Fascination due to some other reviews I read. I didn't find it as outdated and in as bad of shape as others had reviewed. It is a smaller ship and doesn't have all the same things as the other bigger ships. We had a great time as we were more about the ports than the size of our cabin. This was the first cruise where we were asked by the room steward if we wanted early service, late service, or both. I thought this was a little odd, but if we needed something else in the More p.m. our steward (Gade) was always willing to help. We had a great time and I wouldn't hesitate to go on this ship again. Cabin review: 6DU132 Ocean View

This was the first time we went Oceanview instead of balcony. with so many ports, didn't think there would be much balcony time and I was right. I actually liked the layout of the beds in this room better than we have had in the balcony rooms. The beds were situated more like an "L" and so it wasn't like we were breathing on each other (we are a Mom and son(20) traveling). I think our bathroom had been updated, but it didn't have the large magnifying mirror on the wall (which I missed for applying makeup) and this was the first time there was no blowdryer in the room in all our 10 years of cruising (you can ask for one at Guest Services). This was a pretty convenient location as it is midship.

Port and Shore Excursions

Island Tour

This was a fun time. We rode throughout Barbados and saw lots of sites and got some history lessons, too. Guides were very personable and friendly. I would give this an excellent but I felt like our beach portion was a little short.

Segway Tour

This was actually a great excursion however the guide(Jose) was lacking in people skills. He was impatient with those who did not catch on quickly to using the Segway. We mostly watched a video designed for people who had purchased their own segways for our learning experience. The Segway was a great way to see Old San Juan, but it was a tad challenging due to the steep inclines. The excursion itself should get an excellent rating, but guide's indifference and lacking personality makes me give it an average rating.

We enjoyed this port, but since we had been here before, elected to just get off the ship and walk around for a little bit. I do feel that this port is one in which the people are a little more pushy about trying to get you do an activity instead of just letting you walk around and enjoy the beauty.

We had a great time on this excursion. Guides were really personable. Large group was divided in half where part of did a tour first while the others rode the segways, then we switched. We were treated to fresh island fruit and coconut water. Guides were very good about taking pictures of groups and making sure everyone was safe as we did the Segway portion. The excursion stated that you would have a beach chair once we got to the beach, but we did not. Guide said that a new contract was being negotiated and that was happening. I do think that could have been an easy correction for the shore excursion. Our beach time was cut short by about 30 minutes (according to the description) which was again a disappointment. This was a good tour, I just would like to get all of what I think I am getting when I book a tour.

We had a really nice time on this excursion, but was a little taken back at how low keyed it actually was......I don't really think it was the fault of the operators though. There were only 8 of us on the bus........4 of these were children probably ages were 7 to 10 yrs. old. Not really sure why a family would book "Da Party Bus" for young kids, but so be it. Drinks were really good, guide (Shakira) was great, we got a lot of individual attention since it was such a little group. I am sure guide was a little more reserved since there were these kids on the bus, still made for a fun time. Loved getting the history lesson and information about both sides of the island, had just the right amount of stops, and getting to experience the beach and airplanes landing was cool. I would definitely recommend this adventure.

Underwater Scooter

This was a fun and new experience. Guides/workers were very accomodating to everyone. Large group was broken up in to smaller groups so that everyone was doing something either snorkeling, swimming, sunning or actually riding the scooter. Lots of instructions and they made sure everyone was comfortable with what was going on. We had plenty of time and I didn't feel like it was just a rushed excursion. Highly recommend.
