The Worst: Pride of America Cruise Review by bobmurrayiii

Service is mediocre at best. Staff doesn't seem to care about the passengers. Understaffed in dining room during critical hours. Despite a full ship and constant wait lines, 20-25% of the tables in the two formal dining rooms were not in use during the evening rush.
Food is poor quality. Examples: No smoked salmon in the buffet (despite having setups of capers, onions and lemons ready). No high quality cheeses at buffet (brie, blue, etc.), just thin sliced american and swiss. No lobster ever, anywhere. Tiny quantities of more expensive ingredients (2.5 small shrimp in a shrimp ceviche (they sliced them in half lengthwise!), 1 sausage slice in a sausage pasta, etc.). Tea, for you tea drinkers, is Lipton quality (i.e. bring your own tea). The only expresso machine was broken for half the trip and never More repaired.
High prices charged for everything! Cocktails are over $10 (a martini is $14 with mandatory 18% tip). Most specialty restaurants are a la carte (not a fixed price). All services are more expensive than on other ships.
Ridiculous security: no liquids allowed on board, including water! This rule is clearly to increase onboard beverage sales.
Filtered water unavailable to fill water bottles onboard. Bring your own water bottle in any case.
Decorations are minimal and cheap. Lots of US flags, though! Lounge areas are few and far between with very few areas to escape to from your small cabins. Overall feeling of older and worn out, even the towels and linens. Windows were not properly cleaned.
This ship has a virtual monopoly on the Hawaii cruise market. They take advantage of this, and of the passengers, at every opportunity. I would never repeat this cruise again. Hop among the islands, rent a car, explore on your own. The Pride of America is, frankly, nothing to be proud of. Less
