Antarctic or Bust
Embarkation: Buenos Aires
We thought the ship was great, it is well appointed and the staff were literally cleaning anything and everything 24 hours a day.
Our cabin was on the 9th deck and was a balcony cabin on the starboard side. No complaints with our cabin, the bed was comfortable and our cabin steward Omar kept it spotless. Both my wife and I worked out in the gym daily, and while the facilities were adequate, I would have liked a bigger free weight room, but that is probably nit picking.
The buffet restaurant was where we had our breakfasts and lunches and the food was always plentiful and good, with a excellent variety. It was More laid out well, so that you could usually get your plate filled without a wait or much of a wait anyway.
We did not sample any of the upscale restaurants as we were more than happy with the main dining room. The food was always good, and everynight they had a special along with the standard offerings, our evening dining experience was made even better by our wait staff, Hamza and Ekaterina, both wonderful people that we looked forward to seeing every evening.
The entertainment was excellent, I think we went to just about every evening show and they were all excellent, this includes the ship board group as well as the contract entertainment.
They also had on board three gentlemen that gave talks every day that we did not have a port call, they were all good, but two stand out, Mickey Live and Ranger John, they added immeasurably to the experience, with their combined knowledge it was something we looked forward to. The entertainment director was outstanding in his on right.
The service from the crew and officers went above and beyond. Every evening the officers mingled with the guests and were very friendly and accessible. As I mentioned earlier, whatever time you happened to be out, you would see people cleaning.
We visited Puerto Madryn where we took a wonderful Kayaking tour to see Sea Lions, and had a great lunch at a beach side restaurant. This was arranged through the ship as were all our shore excursions. We also visited Ushuaia and took a tour of the Beagle channel and Tierra del Fuego National Park. the boat tour was wonderful, but I was a bit disappointed in the National Park portion of the tour. From there it was to Cape Horn and then to Paradise Cove and Elephant Island in the antarctic. We were blessed with smooth sailing across the Drake Passage and good weather in Antarctica. Antarctica itself was just phenominal. Our next port of call was Stanley in the Falklands. We loved it there, and wish we had more time, we did take a tour to North Pond, it was great, we saw lots of wildlife, and our guide was very friendly and informative. I did not have time for a beer at the famous Glove Tavern, but other than that it was a wonderful visit. After that it was a stop at Puerto Madryn, which I mentioned earlier than on to Montevideo in Uruguay for a nice visit to a cattle ranch and finally back to our starting point of Buenos Aires where we took a city tour combined with another tour of a ranch before heading home. It was a wonderful trip, and I really have no complaints about the ship, the service or the shore excursions. Less
Cabin review: 2A9036 Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2A
Our cabin was very clean and well appointed, of course it goes without saying that it was small, but we were too cheap to go the suite route. The bathroom facilites were fine and the bed was comfortable. Not much more to say, other than the extra cost of a balcony was well worth it, in my opinionRead All Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2A (2A) Reviews >>
